Randy Durband is the Chief Executive Officer of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), the UN-created non-profit that manages global baseline standards for sustainable tourism. He brings to his leadership position of GSTC a unique blend of skills and experience based on the two career paths he has taken in travel and tourism – twenty-four years in senior leadership positions at some of the finest U.S. tour operators, plus seven years and counting in sustainable tourism. His first career included serving as President for Travcoa, INTRAV, and Clipper Cruise Lines, (all brands within TUI Group), and Executive VP of Tauck.
He combines the knowledge and networks of the business of travel gained from that career with a passion for sustainability. Deep knowledge of sustainability came from serving as technical advisor in tourism development projects with UN agencies UNESCO and ILO and other NGO’s and foundations, with focuses on poverty reduction, community-based tourism, emerging destinations, sustainable destination development, and cultural heritage tourism throughout Southeast Asia and also in South America.
